专刊名称Assessing the Environmental Impact of Agri-food System toward Low Carbon

专刊背景Food is the link between sustainable development and human nutrition and health. Agri-Food system has profound impacts on global climate change and human health. Globally, agri-food system is estimated to be responsible for a large amount of anthropogenic GHG emissions, ranging from 19% to 29%. With the growth of consumer demand for food, emissions from the agri-food system will continue to increase, especially from the agri-food supply chain. In addition, unreasonable dietary patterns not only become the main cause of being overweight and obesity, but also increase GHG emissions. If no measures are taken, the emissions from the agri-food system will increase by 60% to 90% in the next 30 years, and the impact on the environment will exceed the safety line. It is hence crucial to promote the low-carbon transformation of the agri-food system that meets both the needs of carbon emission reductions and human health. Existing studies exclusively focus on the greenhouse gas emissions from the agri-food system, while ignoring how to transform and develop the agri-food system. Existing dietary guidelines concentrate solely on human nutritional intake requirements, without considering the impact on GHG emissions. This special issue focuses on assessing the environmental impact of the food system and how to achieve sustainable transformation from a whole lifecycle perspective. We welcome scholars from multiple disciplines such as social science, environmental science, ecology, geography, and nutrition science. The knowledge presented will be useful to academic members, industry professionals and policymakers. We are interested in articles of excellent scientific quality able to provide theoretical frameworks, case studies, and proposals for innovative approaches, methods, and tools. All accepted contributions must have a strong research background related to food consumption and climate change, which will help to gain insights and bridge current problems to create a vision for sustainable development of the agri-food system.
